CASE STUDY #3
A Rapid Covid Assessment for a Government Bilateral Donor Mission in Asia
THE CHALLENGE
COVID-19 is a health crisis of unprecedented scale with immediate and long-ranging social and economic impacts that will affect people living in Southeast Asia for decades to come. As part of its country development strategy, our client needed to rapidly adapt programming to meet emergency demands, while also balancing the necessity for long-term, strategic responses. To provide funding that would meet these challenges, they needed first to understand the new created by the pandemic.
THE SOLUTIONS LAB APPROACH
Due to travel restrictions, we were obliged to conduct our approach remotely. Fortunately, given our long experience working internationally, our team was able to adapt quickly to the new circumstances without sacrificing time or depth of research. We rapidly mobilized our expertise of the region, designed research to address key sectors, and tapped our in-country network of sectoral experts to produce a rapid assessment. Primary research was augmented with quantitative and qualitative data sources to anchor and validate research.
THE RESULT
Our analysis was able to identify clear opportunities for our client to build on its more than 20 years of constructive engagement in the country and strengthen its relationship with a challenging government. Recommendations prioritized the client’s investment in impacted sectors in order to address the needs of vulnerable communities. The assessment led to the adoption of informed, well-coordinated interventions based on the shared goals of progress, protection, and a sustainable post COVID-19 recovery.
