Mary Kay Magistad is an award-winning correspondent. In her two decades working with National Public Radio (NPR) and PRX’s The World, she has reported from every province in China, most countries in Asia and many in Africa. She is particularly interested in the impact of China’s rise in the world.

Ms. Magistad’s podcast On China’s New Silk Road is a richly reported deep dive into the global impact of China’s Belt & Road Initiative. Her earlier podcast, Whose Century Is It? (a Webby Awards honoree) looked at ideas, trends and twists currently shaping power dynamics around the world.

She holds a Master’s in International Relations and Development Studies from the University of Sussex (UK), and an undergraduate degree in journalism and history from Northwestern University. She has been a Nieman Fellow and Radcliffe Fellow at Harvard University, and taught international reporting and audio journalism at the University of California at Berkeley’s Graduate School of Journalism.
